What Patience Left Behind
Four sandalwoods · Three lands · Sumatran benzoin
No oud. None was needed.
THE COMPOSITION
Mysore & Maharashtra sandalwood — heart & root
Pahang sandalwood, from the forests of the Malay archipelago
New Caledonia sandalwood, added last
Sumatran benzoin granules
THE PROCESS
Three days of stirring, without stopping. The first three woods and the benzoin
granules, turning and turning until the resin gave itself up to the oil.
Then the stirring stopped, and the harder work began — months of leaving it alone.
Only after the waiting did the fourth wood arrive. New Caledonia sandalwood is
deep, ancient, sweet — a wood so old it tastes of honey and dry sunlight. It was
added last because some gifts can only be received by a blend that has already
been made ready.
Then it rested again.
THE SCENT
Creamy. Vanilla-thick. Warm vanilla and honey, with something older than vanilla
underneath. Benzoin folds a thick sweetness through the sandalwood; the New
Caledonia lifts it into honey and dry sunlight.
Long-lasting. It does not announce itself and it does not leave.
Every material pure. Every drop blended by our own hand.
Sabr is not passive. It is the most active thing we do at this bench — the daily
decision not to touch what is not ready.
