There is an hour that belongs to no one but the ones awake for it. The streets are empty, the birds haven't started, and the veil between the seeker and the answer grows thin. This is sahar — the last third of the night. The solihin do not sleep through it. They sit. They pour coffee, dark and unhurried, and wait for the sky to change.

Sirr as-Sahar begins there. Real Ethiopian beans, ground and macerated straight into the oil, deepened with coffee de grasse and softened by cacao butter so the bitterness turns rich rather than harsh. A whisper of black tea steadies it, the way a second cup keeps the vigil going after the first has gone cold.

Beneath the coffee sits the secret the name speaks of. Wild Brunei oud, 2015. Golaghat oud, 2010. Joined by Bhutan and Sumbawa — four ouds carrying different weights of smoke, resin and time. Tonkin musk tincture and sandalwood absolute hold it close to the skin. Osmanthus and Indonesian patchouli move quietly underneath, present but never asking to be noticed.
